Convert Cubic feet to Cubic metres
1 cubic foot is 0.03 m³. One cubic foot is exactly 0.028316846592 cubic metres.
One cubic foot is 0.028316847 cubic metres. To convert cubic feet to cubic metres, multiply by 0.028316847; to go the other way, divide by 0.028316847 or multiply by 35.314667. The relation is exact but the figure is not: it is a rounding of a number that does not terminate, and it follows from NIST Handbook 130. Exactly 28.316846592 litres, or 7.48 US gallons.

How do you convert cubic feet to cubic metres? The converter and the working
- 1.Take the measurement in cubic feet.
- 2.Multiply by 0.028316847 — that is how many cubic metres fit in one cubic foot.
- 3.To go back the other way, divide by 0.028316847, or multiply by 35.314667.
Worked example: 25 cubic feet to cubic metres
- Formula
- ft³ × 0.028316847 = m³
- Arithmetic
- 25 × 0.028316847 = 0.71 m³
- Answer
- 25 ft³ = 0.71 m³
The factor is rounded for display; the figure above is computed from the full value.

Cube the linear factor, not the volume you expect
A meter is 3.28 feet, so a cubic meter is 3.28³ = 35.31 cubic feet. The instinct to reach for the linear ratio is why volume estimates come out an order of magnitude short. In practice: a cubic yard of concrete is 27 ft³ and takes 60 sixty-pound bags or 45 eighty-pound ones, and a cubic meter is 1.31 cubic yards, so ordering "a yard" in Canada and "a meter" in the US are not the same order.
NIST Handbook 44, Appendix C — general tables of units of measurement
What is a cubic foot?
Exactly 28.316846592 litres, or 7.48 US gallons. The working unit of natural gas billing, air flow and refrigerator capacity in the US.
What is a cubic metre?
Exactly a thousand litres, by the definition of the litre. The SI unit of volume, and how the rest of the world orders concrete.
How many cubic metres are in a cubic foot?
One cubic foot is 0.028316847 cubic metres. Going the other way, one cubic metre is 35.314667 cubic feet. Both figures come from the same defined relation rather than from a measurement, which is why they are the same today as they were in 1959.
Every volume unit here
The whole group — 20 units with their symbols and the size of each one in liters — is on the conversion index, along with every pair it makes. The table above already gives each of them relative to a cubic foot.
