Convert Cubic centimetres to Milliliters
1 cubic centimetre is 1 ml. One cubic centimetre is exactly 1 milliliter.
One cubic centimetre is 1 milliliter. To convert cubic centimetres to milliliters, multiply by 1; to go the other way, divide by 1 or multiply by 1. The factor is exact rather than rounded: it follows from NIST Handbook 130. A thousandth of a litre, which makes it exactly a millilitre — the same volume under two names.

Factors are entered by hand from NIST Handbook 130 rather than derived from a units library, so the ones that terminate are exact rather than rounded.
The same converter answers this pair however it is written: cubic centimetres to millilitres is the British spelling of the same units — the metre and the litre are spelled that way outside the United States and the quantity does not change.
How do you convert cubic centimetres to milliliters? The converter and the working
- 1.Take the measurement in cubic centimetres.
- 2.Multiply by 1 — that is how many milliliters fit in one cubic centimetre.
- 3.To go back the other way, divide by 1, or multiply by 1.
Worked example: 25 cubic centimetres to milliliters
- Formula
- cm³ × 1 = ml
- Arithmetic
- 25 × 1 = 25 ml
- Answer
- 25 cm³ = 25 ml
The factor is exact, so this figure is exact too — only the display is rounded.

A cubic centimetre and a millilitre are the same volume, exactly
The litre is defined as a cubic decimetre, so a millilitre is a thousandth of that — one cubic centimetre, with no rounding anywhere. The two names survive because different trades adopted different ones: engine displacement and syringes are quoted in cc, cooking and pharmacy in ml. 1,600 cc and 1.6 litres describe the same engine. The one caveat is historical: between 1901 and 1964 the litre was defined by the mass of water and was larger by 28 parts per million, so a pre-1964 measurement in millilitres is not quite a cubic centimetre.
NIST Special Publication 811 — Guide for the Use of the International System of Units
What is a cubic centimetre?
A thousandth of a litre, which makes it exactly a millilitre — the same volume under two names. Engine displacement uses cc and medicine uses ml for the identical quantity.
What is a milliliter?
One thousandth of a liter, and exactly one cubic centimeter.
How many milliliters are in a cubic centimetre?
One cubic centimetre is 1 milliliter, exactly. Going the other way, one milliliter is 1 cubic centimetre. Both figures come from the same defined relation rather than from a measurement, which is why they are the same today as they were in 1959.

The whole group — 20 units with their symbols and the size of each one in liters — is on the conversion index, along with every pair it makes. The table above already gives each of them relative to a cubic centimetre.
