Connecticut tax refund status
A Connecticut refund is paid by the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, not by the IRS, and it runs on its own clock. It publishes 10 to 12 weeks for one sent by post. The two refunds arrive separately, and the federal tracker says nothing about the state one.

The agency that holds it
Connecticut Department of Revenue Services
Its refund tool sits behind a session that cannot be linked to directly, so this is the department’s own site. Nothing here is a third-party lookup: a site asking for your social security number to “track” a state refund is not the state.
How long the Connecticut refund takes, according to Connecticut
- Filed electronically
- Connecticut publishes no figure for an electronic return.
- Sent by post
- 10 to 12 weeks
Connecticut publishes only the paper figure, and only because of filing-season volume.
Read from the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services on 2 September 2026. A state period is what the department expects, not a promise: it is measured from the day the return is accepted, not the day you filed, and a return pulled for review leaves the published window entirely.
The federal refund, which is a different question
Most people waiting on a Connecticut refund are also waiting on a federal one, and it is the federal timeline that is actually published: three weeks from an e-filed return, six or more from paper. Enter the date you filed and the dates follow.
Where you are
11 days before the early end
Normal runs to Mon, November 2, 2026. Before that date, a tracker that has not moved is not evidence of a problem.

What each federal status means
- Return received
- The IRS has the return and has started on it. It says nothing about whether the refund is approved, and a return can sit here for its whole processing time.
- Refund approved
- The amount is settled and a date has been set. This is the first point at which the figure on screen is the figure you will be paid.
- Refund sent
- Money has left the IRS. A direct deposit takes up to 5 more days to appear in an account and a cheque up to several weeks in the post.
State trackers use their own words and their own number of stages. What they share is that the first one means only that the return arrived.
What Connecticut charges, so you can check the figure
Connecticut is graduated for 2026, which on $60,000 of income comes to about $1,775 — an effective rate of 2.96%. If that is well below what your employer withheld, the refund you are waiting for is real; if it is above, the refund may be smaller than you think. The Connecticut paycheck calculator works it out on your own salary.
- Connecticut has a tax benefit recapture: above roughly $105,000 of AGI single you begin repaying the benefit of the lower bands, so high earners end up paying their top rate on all income rather than only the excess.
- The personal exemption of $15,000 single phases out entirely by $45,000 of AGI, $1,000 for every $1,000 over $30,000. This calculator applies the full exemption.
Questions people actually ask
- How long does a Connecticut tax refund take?
- Connecticut publishes 10 to 12 weeks for one sent by post. Connecticut publishes only the paper figure, and only because of filing-season volume. That clock starts when the return is accepted, not when you filed, and a return pulled for review leaves the window entirely.
- Where do I check my Connecticut tax refund?
- With the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, not the IRS — a state refund and a federal refund are two separate payments from two separate agencies, and Where's My Refund on irs.gov says nothing about the state one. The department’s own site is linked above; its refund tool sits behind a session that cannot be linked to directly.
- Why is my Connecticut refund slower than my federal one?
- They are processed by different people on different systems, so there is no reason for them to arrive together. States also run identity checks that the IRS does not: a letter asking you to confirm you filed is the single commonest cause of a state refund stalling, and it is sent by post, so the first sign is silence.
- How much Connecticut tax should I have paid?
- On $60,000 of income Connecticut charges about $1,775 for 2026, an effective rate of 2.96%. Comparing that against what was withheld is the quickest check on whether the refund you are expecting is the right size.
- Can my state refund be taken to pay a debt?
- Yes, and by more bodies than the federal one. States offset refunds against their own back taxes, unpaid court fines, tolls, university fees and child support, and they can also send the money to the IRS. The notice arrives after the offset, which is why a refund can be smaller than the tracker said without any error having occurred.
