Convert Micrograms to Centigrams

1 microgram is 0.0001 cg. One microgram is exactly 0.0001 centigrams.

One microgram is 1.0000 × 10^-4 centigrams. To convert micrograms to centigrams, multiply by 1.0000 × 10^-4; to go the other way, divide by 1.0000 × 10^-4 or multiply by 10000. The relation is exact but the figure is not: it is a rounding of a number that does not terminate, and it follows from NIST Handbook 44. One millionth of a gram.

Factors are entered by hand from NIST Handbook 44 rather than derived from a units library, so the ones that terminate are exact rather than rounded.

How do you convert micrograms to centigrams? The converter and the working

  1. 1.Take the measurement in micrograms.
  2. 2.Multiply by 1.0000 × 10^-4 — that is how many centigrams fit in one microgram.
  3. 3.To go back the other way, divide by 1.0000 × 10^-4, or multiply by 10000.

Worked example: 25 micrograms to centigrams

Formula
mcg × 1.0000 × 10^-4 = cg
Arithmetic
25 × 1.0000 × 10^-4 = 0.0025 cg
Answer
25 mcg = 0.0025 cg

The factor is rounded for display; the figure above is computed from the full value.

What is a microgram?

One millionth of a gram. Written mcg rather than µg on labels deliberately: the Greek letter is the character most often lost in transcription, and a factor of a thousand in a dose is not a rounding error.

What is a centigram?

A hundredth of a gram, or ten milligrams. It survives mainly in pharmacology and in school exercises about metric prefixes.

How many centigrams are in a microgram?

One microgram is 1.0000 × 10^-4 centigrams. Going the other way, one centigram is 10000 micrograms. Both figures come from the same defined relation rather than from a measurement, which is why they are the same today as they were in 1959.

Every weight unit here

The whole group — 15 units with their symbols and the size of each one in kilograms — is on the conversion index, along with every pair it makes. The table above already gives each of them relative to a microgram.
