Oven Temperature Chart: °F, °C, Gas, Fan

Every oven setting from 175 °F to 550 °F in Fahrenheit, Celsius as a recipe writes it, gas mark, and the fan-oven equivalent. The Celsius column is rounded to the ten a dial actually offers, which is why 350 °F reads as 180 °C here and as 176.67 °C in a converter.

Source data and formula checked · How we check

Oven Temperature Chart: °F, °C, Gas, Fan reads celsius straight off oven setting, for 16 values from 175 to 550. Every row is computed from the same formula the calculator uses, not measured or copied from another table, so a value between two rows can be worked out the same way. The formula is the one published by NIST.

Gas mark 1 is 275 °F and each mark is 25 °F. Below mark 1 the scale halves — ½ at 250 °F, ¼ at 225 °F — and below 225 °F there is no mark at all, which the column shows as 0 rather than inventing one.

Questions people actually ask

How do I read the Oven Temperature Chart: °F, °C, Gas, Fan?
Find your oven setting in the first column and read across. At 175 the celsius is 80 °C; at 550 it is 290 °C. The table runs from 175 to 550 in 16 rows.
Can I read between two rows?
Not by splitting the difference. The celsius does not change by the same amount from row to row, so the midpoint of two rows is not the answer for the midpoint of two oven setting values. Put the exact figure into the calculator instead — it uses the same formula that produced every row here.
What if my oven setting is outside the table?
The chart covers 175 to 550, which is the range people actually look up. Anything above or below goes into the calculator, which takes any figure and shows each step of the working rather than only the result. Open the oven temperature converter.
Where do these numbers come from?
Every row is computed at build time from the formula published by NIST, by the same code behind the calculator — not transcribed from another table, which is how a rounding error in one chart ends up in twenty.

Need a different number?

The chart covers the common values. For anything between the rows, the oven temperature converter takes any figure and shows the working.
