Puppy Growth Chart by Age
What share of its adult weight a medium-breed puppy has reached at each age, and the adult weight that implies for a 5 kg puppy. A medium dog is half grown around 18 weeks and finished near a year; toy breeds get there months earlier and giant breeds months later.
Source data and formula checked · How we check
Puppy Growth Chart by Age reads predicted adult weight straight off age in weeks, for 20 values from 4 to 52. Every row is computed from the same formula the calculator uses, not measured or copied from another table, so a value between two rows can be worked out the same way. The formula is the one published by Salt C et al. Growth standard charts for monitoring bodyweight in dogs of different sizes. PLoS ONE 2017;12:e0182064.

Questions people actually ask
- How do I read the Puppy Growth Chart by Age?
- Find your age in weeks in the first column and read across. At 4 weeks the predicted adult weight is 24.5 kg; at 52 weeks it is 5.0 kg. The table runs from 4 weeks to 52 weeks in 20 rows.
- Can I read between two rows?
- Not by splitting the difference. The predicted adult weight does not change by the same amount from row to row, so the midpoint of two rows is not the answer for the midpoint of two age in weeks values. Put the exact figure into the calculator instead — it uses the same formula that produced every row here.
- What if my age in weeks is outside the table?
- The chart covers 4 weeks to 52 weeks, which is the range people actually look up. Anything above or below goes into the calculator, which takes any figure and shows each step of the working rather than only the result. Open the puppy weight.
- Where do these numbers come from?
- Every row is computed at build time from the formula published by Salt C et al. Growth standard charts for monitoring bodyweight in dogs of different sizes. PLoS ONE 2017;12:e0182064, by the same code behind the calculator — not transcribed from another table, which is how a rounding error in one chart ends up in twenty.
Need a different number?
The chart covers the common values. For anything between the rows, the puppy weight takes any figure and shows the working.
