mAh to Wh Chart
Power bank capacities in mAh converted to watt-hours at the 3.7 V nominal cell voltage. Airlines limit cabin batteries by watt-hours, not milliamp-hours: under 100 Wh needs no approval, 100 to 160 Wh needs the airline’s consent, and above 160 Wh is refused.
Source data and formula checked · How we check
mAh to Wh Chart reads watt-hours straight off capacity, for 26 values from 1000 to 50000. Every row is computed from the same formula the calculator uses, not measured or copied from another table, so a value between two rows can be worked out the same way. The formula is the one published by IATA Lithium Battery Guidance Document.
At 3.7 V, the 100 Wh airline threshold falls at 27,027 mAh and the 160 Wh threshold at 43,243 mAh.

Questions people actually ask
- How do I read the mAh to Wh Chart?
- Find your capacity in the first column and read across. At 1000 the watt-hours is 3.7 Wh; at 50000 it is 185.0 Wh. The table runs from 1000 to 50000 in 26 rows.
- How much does the watt-hours change per row?
- By 3.7 Wh for every 1000 of capacity, and by the same amount everywhere in the table — the relationship is a straight line, so halfway between two rows is halfway between their two answers. That is what makes reading between the rows safe here.
- What if my capacity is outside the table?
- The chart covers 1000 to 50000, which is the range people actually look up. Anything above or below goes into the calculator, which takes any figure and shows each step of the working rather than only the result. Open the mah to wh.
- Where do these numbers come from?
- Every row is computed at build time from the formula published by IATA Lithium Battery Guidance Document, by the same code behind the calculator — not transcribed from another table, which is how a rounding error in one chart ends up in twenty.
Need a different number?
The chart covers the common values. For anything between the rows, the mah to wh takes any figure and shows the working.
