Final Exam Grade Needed, by Current Grade

What you have to score on a final worth 30% of the course to finish on 90%, read against the grade you are carrying into it. A grade below 85.71% cannot reach 90 even with a perfect final: the row where the needed score passes 100 is where the target has to change rather than the effort.

Final Exam Grade Needed, by Current Grade reads answer straight off grade so far, for 29 values from 95 to 60. Every row is computed from the same formula the calculator uses, not measured or copied from another table, so a value between two rows can be worked out the same way. The formula is the one published by US Department of Education.

Final worth 30% of the course, target 90%. Change either on the calculator above and the whole column moves.

Questions people actually ask

How do I read the Final Exam Grade Needed, by Current Grade chart?
Find your grade so far in the first column and read across. At 95 the answer is 78.33 %; at 60 it is 160.00 %. The table runs from 95 to 60 in 29 rows.
How much does the answer change per row?
By 4.67 % for every 2 of grade so far, and by the same amount everywhere in the table — the relationship is a straight line, so halfway between two rows is halfway between their two answers. That is what makes reading between the rows safe here.
What if my grade so far is outside the table?
The chart covers 95 to 60, which is the range people actually look up. Anything above or below goes into the calculator, which takes any figure and shows each step of the working rather than only the result. Open the grade calculator.
Where do these numbers come from?
Every row is computed at build time from the formula published by US Department of Education, by the same code behind the calculator — not transcribed from another table, which is how a rounding error in one chart ends up in twenty.
