APY by Interest Rate Chart

What every nominal rate from 0.25% to 8% becomes as an APY when compounded daily, and what it earns on $10,000 over a year. The gap between the two numbers is small at low rates and grows with the square of the rate, which is why it is worth a tiebreak and never worth chasing.

Source data and formula checked · How we check

APY by Interest Rate Chart reads apy straight off nominal interest rate, for 28 values from 0.25 to 8. Every row is computed from the same formula the calculator uses, not measured or copied from another table, so a value between two rows can be worked out the same way. The formula is the one published by 12 CFR Part 1030 (Regulation DD), Appendix A.

Compounded daily on 365 days, on a $10,000 balance held one year. Quarterly or monthly compounding yields slightly less.

Questions people actually ask

How do I read the APY by Interest Rate Chart?
Find your nominal interest rate in the first column and read across. At 0.25 the apy is 0.250 %; at 8 it is 8.328 %. The table runs from 0.25 to 8 in 28 rows.
Can I read between two rows?
Not by splitting the difference. The apy does not change by the same amount from row to row, so the midpoint of two rows is not the answer for the midpoint of two nominal interest rate values. Put the exact figure into the calculator instead — it uses the same formula that produced every row here.
What if my nominal interest rate is outside the table?
The chart covers 0.25 to 8, which is the range people actually look up. Anything above or below goes into the calculator, which takes any figure and shows each step of the working rather than only the result. Open the apy calculator.
Where do these numbers come from?
Every row is computed at build time from the formula published by 12 CFR Part 1030 (Regulation DD), Appendix A, by the same code behind the calculator — not transcribed from another table, which is how a rounding error in one chart ends up in twenty.

Need a different number?

The chart covers the common values. For anything between the rows, the apy calculator takes any figure and shows the working.
