Worked example
From Sunday 30 August 2026 to Friday 25 December 2026 is 117 days, or 118 counting both dates. Of those, 85 are working days and 33 fall at a weekend — 16 whole weeks and 5 days, about 3.8 months.
How to work it out yourself
- 1.Decide which convention you need before reading the answer. The plain difference counts nights — what a hotel bills and what a countdown means. Counting both end dates is what a contract means by "five days from Monday to Friday", and it is always one more.
- 2.The working-day line counts Monday to Friday only. It does not remove public holidays, because those differ by country and by employer; the federal list is linked below if you need to subtract them by hand.
- 3.Months and years are averages — 30.44 days and 365.2425 days — because calendar months are not equal. For an exact age in years and months, the age calculator counts completed birthdays instead.

Questions people actually ask
- How many days are between two dates?
- Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The subtraction gives the number of nights between them; add one if you are counting both dates as days, which is what a deadline written "from the 1st to the 5th" usually means.
- Does the working-day count include holidays?
- No. It removes Saturdays and Sundays only. US federal holidays average ten a year and land on a weekday most years, so subtract them from the working-day figure if the deadline follows a business calendar.
- Why is a month not 30 days here?
- Because a calendar year is 365.2425 days across twelve months of unequal length, which averages 30.436875 days. Any single month is between 28 and 31, so the average is right for a long span and wrong for a short one — count the dates directly if it matters.
- How do I count days until a future date?
- Leave the first field as today, which it defaults to, and put the target date in the second. The difference is the countdown, and the working-day line tells you how many of those are business days if you are waiting on something that only moves on weekdays.
