Calories Burned Running
Energy burned running at 6 mph, from the 9.8 MET value for that pace — more than twice walking — against your weight and the time you ran, not the distance.
Running at 6 mph is 9.8 MET, more than twice walking. That figure is for the pace, not the distance: covering a mile burns close to the same energy whether it takes eight minutes or twelve, but the faster mile does it in less time.
With weight 75 kg, duration 45 minutes, calories burned comes to 579 kcal — calories burned. It is reached in 3 steps, the last of which is 12.8625 * 45, and each one is printed on the page with its numbers filled in. The formula is the one published by Compendium of Physical Activities, not an approximation fitted to it.

- Calories per minute

12.8625 * 45578.813 kcal- Net of what you would have burned at rest

Is it the pace or the distance that decides?
Time spent at a pace. A mile costs about the same energy at any speed, because a slower mile takes longer at a lower MET and the two cancel. Where speed tells is the hour: an hour at 6 mph burns far more than an hour at 4 mph, and the hour is what the figure above computes.
Does a treadmill burn the same?
Close, and the belt does none of the work people assume it does. What is missing is air resistance, worth roughly one per cent per mile per hour outdoors. Setting a 1% incline is the usual correction and brings a treadmill hour within a rounding error of the road.
The formula
- Calories per minute
met * 3.5 * weight / 200 - Calories burned
per_minute * minutes - Net of what you would have burned at rest
calories - (1 * 3.5 * weight / 200) * minutes
