How old am I if I was born in 2016?

9 or 10 — 9 if your birthday is still to come in 2026, and 10 once it has passed.

There is no single answer to this question and pages that give one are wrong for about half the people who ask it. Age counts completed birthdays, so everyone born in 2016 spends part of 2026 at 9 and the rest at 10.

Opened on 1 January 2016, so it shows the 10 side of the pair. Put your own date of birth in and the pair collapses to the one number that is yours.

Why the answer is a pair

Age in the US and almost everywhere else is age at last birthday: you are 9 until the day you turn 10, and then you are 10 for a year. Subtracting 2016 from 2026 gives 10, which is only right for the people whose birthday has already gone. For everyone else it is a year too high, and for anyone born on 31 December it is a year too high for all but one day of the year.

To get the single number, put your actual birthday into the calculator above. It counts completed years rather than subtracting, so it lands on the right side of the birthday.
