How old am I if I was born in 1953?
72 or 73 — 72 if your birthday is still to come in 2026, and 73 once it has passed.
There is no single answer to this question and pages that give one are wrong for about half the people who ask it. Age counts completed birthdays, so everyone born in 1953 spends part of 2026 at 72 and the rest at 73. A birth year of 1953 places you in the Baby Boomers.

Opened on 1 January 1953, so it shows the 73 side of the pair. Put your own date of birth in and the pair collapses to the one number that is yours.
Why the answer is a pair
Age in the US and almost everywhere else is age at last birthday: you are 72 until the day you turn 73, and then you are 73 for a year. Subtracting 1953 from 2026 gives 73, which is only right for the people whose birthday has already gone. For everyone else it is a year too high, and for anyone born on 31 December it is a year too high for all but one day of the year.
To get the single number, put your actual birthday into the calculator above. It counts completed years rather than subtracting, so it lands on the right side of the birthday.
